Where Do You Go to Refuel?
A reflection by Cathy Freeman | My Art Sisters & Grow Joy Creative Journaling
When you think of a peaceful place on this planet… what comes to mind?
Is it a location — a quiet cabin in the woods, a garden full of blooming flowers, a winding mountain road, or a stream of moving water?
Is it your home, your porch, or a special room or corner?
We all have a peaceful place — somewhere our body exhales, our thoughts soften, and our spirit remembers how to just be.
After a long draining day , it’s time for refueling. I didn’t want to “make something impressive.” I didn’t want to perform. I just needed peace.
So I opened my journal.
And without even thinking, my brush began to draw mountains.
Lines softened into the flow of water.
Cool colors, gentle shapes.
Before I even realized what I was doing, I had recreated the place my heart needed most — the mountains and rivers that always help me reset.
And here’s the beautiful part:
That moment… wasn’t about skill.
It wasn’t about creating something for anyone else.
It was about returning to my peaceful place.
Because when the day has taken everything out of you, sometimes the most healing thing you can do is to sit down and create the place you wish you could go.
Let your brush take you there.
Let your lines speak.
Let your colors soothe.
It’s in that moment your art leaves the pressure of “creating to please someone” and becomes something sacred — something for you.
It doesn’t matter how many mountains you’ve drawn or how many flowers you’ve painted.
What matters is this:
You returned to the space where you once felt free. And through creativity, you opened that door again.
💛
If you’ve had a long day or a hard season — I invite you to sit down tonight, take a breath, and let your peaceful place appear on the page.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be honest.

✨ You can start with this week’s featured prompt:
“Where do you go — in your memory or imagination — to feel at peace?” Paint it. Draw it. Smudge the edges. Let it come alive again.
Creative Prompt: “Where do you go — in your memory or imagination — to feel at peace?”
Take a quiet moment. Close your eyes.
Breathe in… and let yourself picture that place where you instantly begin to relax.
- Is it a mountain trail?
- A cozy corner with your favorite book?
- A garden blooming with color?
- The beach at sunrise?
- Or even a childhood memory that makes you feel safe?
Now, open your journal or canvas — and begin to recreate it.
You don’t need it to look “real.”
Just let the colors, shapes, and lines remind you of how it feels.
Use soft brushstrokes, swirling lines, or gentle colors.
Let your brush lead — not your perfection.
This is just for you.
A few minutes to return to what grounds you.
To feel safe, calm, and whole again.
With care,
