Who's My Art Sisters

Aug 14, 2024

For the past several months in our art group, MY ART SISTERS, we have been discussing a chapter out of "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.   We have found it filled with nuggets of gold.  For example, "to grow as an artist, you must be willing to be a bad artist", says Julia Cameron.

Julia Cameron speaks alot about being blocked in our creativity and how these are in reality stalling techniques....

"As blocked creatives, we often sit on the sidelines critiquing those in the game.....This is not just jealousy.  It is a staling technique that reinforces our staying stuck."

Julia Cameron suggests Positive Affirmations to regain the artist inside.  She says that they provide a sense of safety and hope.

I agree 100 %.  That is why I provide the members of my art club, MY ART SISTERS, with a library of positive affirmations that I call, Creative Reminders.  Positive statements that reinforce something hopeful in one's mind.

In The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron offers several positive affirmations designed to support and encourage artists. One of the most frequently cited affirmations is:

"I am a channel for the creative flow."

This affirmation is intended to help artists connect with their creative energy, recognize their role as a conduit for inspiration, and reinforce their belief in their creative abilities. It serves to remind artists that they are inherently capable of creating and expressing themselves, and that creativity flows through them naturally.

Cameron encourages artists to use affirmations like this to build self-confidence, overcome creative blocks, and embrace their artistic potential.

This week we covered Week 8, titled “Recovering a Sense of Connection”:
