Keep the Memories - Share the Stories

Oh the possibilities of this project!
When I started creating this project for my art students, I wanted to create a unique way to make and keep a personal journal.
In the process, I began seeing all the other possibilities; such as, a way to share some of the treasured memories of family members.
Hence the name, MEMORY KEEPER. You can create a place for holding stories, thoughts, and pictures of members in your family.
In this digital class I take you along with me, step-by-step as I create this shoe.
Below is a list of supplies I used. I encourage you to use what you have in your art stash. You will also find 2 videos below to guide you in creating the shoe.
SUGGESTED SUPPLIES for the painted slipper:
Old Shoe
Collage papers
Paint of your choice. Something that compliments the colors that are on your shoe
Gesso
DecoArt - Elegant Finish - White Pearl
If you like: beads, trim, any decorative elements.
CREATING THE JOURNAL PAGES
Make a templet of the inside of the shoe.
- I used Scrapbooking paper for the outside folder and lighter weight paper for the pages inside to write on.
Ribbon for the pull tag
Souls to Remember - Video 2
Finishing touches
After I finished my first shoe, I went on to create a shoe for my father.
My father's shoe was simple to create. Trying to decide the placement of the pictures is the most time consuming activity in this project.
Suggested Supplies:
- A shoe
- Pictures of the individual and pictures of things that they did in their life.
- Mod Podge for glueing pictures.
WHAT I DID:
I found an old shoe at the Thrift store that was similar to something that he would have worn. You do not need to find an exact shoe. Any shoe will work.
Trace the sole of the shoe on a piece of copy paper to create a pattern.
I organized pictures that I had of my father and determined where I would like them to be placed.
I used Mod Podge to adhere the pictures to the shoe. Coated under the picture, place it on the shoe and then apply a coating over the top.
He loved the mountains. I left an area of the shoe where I could paint a scene with mountains. I painted a layer of Clear Gesso over the area before I added the paint.
I traced the sole to create the pages inside the shoe. I did cut them smaller so that it would be easier to pull them out of the shoe. On these pages I glued pictures to record memories of his life.
